Helen L. Collins was called home to be with the Lord and reunited with her beloved husband of 55 years on Monday, February 8, 2021, at the age of 88.
Born and raised in Dooly County, Georgia, Helen graduated from Pinehurst High School where she played basketball and was the Salutatorian of the Class of ’49. In 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, and over the course of the next 10 years, they relocated several times while he was in the Air Force. Helen, Bo, and their four children settled in Warner Robins in 1961, where she later became a dietary manager with the Houston County Board of Education. She worked at Warner Robins High and Rumble Junior High Schools until she retired.
Helen was a woman of faith and the heart of the Collins family. She and Bo shaped their family’s spirituality by their tireless Christian example. They founded Liberty Baptist Church in Warner Robins where Helen was a member. She enjoyed working outdoors keeping her yard and gardens. Helen was an excellent seamstress. Helen enjoyed baking, decorating cakes, and catering. She was renowned for her caramel cake. Her motto was “life is short, eat dessert first.”
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. Charlie T. “Bo” Collins; her parents, Zeke and Lillian Everett; and her sister, Faye Kimbrough.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Linda Tillman (Bob) of Byron, Charlie T. Collins, Jr. (Debbie) of Georgetown, Georgia, Janet Svendsen (Andrew) of Pensacola, Florida and Jimmy Collins (Faith) of Perry; grandchildren, Rob Tillman (Brittni), Wade Tillman, Amy Moore (Eric), Noel Lewandowski (Justin), Garrett Svendsen, Courtney Lemons (Kyle) and Bryn Collins; great-grandchildren, Ella and Beau Moore, Fenn and Rowan Easom, and Whitley Lemons; and sisters, Ruth Cross, JoAnn Sparrow and Paula Moore. She was beloved by many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
Helen’s family will receive friends on Thursday, February 11, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Reverend Charlie Bibb officiating. Helen will be laid to rest next to her husband, in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
The family will receive flowers or memorial donations can be given in her memory to Liberty Baptist Church, 1026 Kathryn Ryals Rd., Warner Robins, GA 31088.
