Helen Ruth Woods, 86, joined her Lord and Savior in heaven on the afternoon of Friday, September 9, 2022.
Mrs. Woods was born on August 15, 1936, in Calera, Alabama to the late George and Margaret Stonecypher. She was a 1954 graduate of West End High School in Birmingham, Alabama. She married the love of her life, Charles Ray Woods, on September 3, 1955, and set out as an United States Air Force wife, supporting her husband in assignments in Washington, Massachusetts, Florida, and Michigan before finally settling at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins. As her children grew older, she began her own career in civil service while the family was stationed at Kincheloe Air Force Base in Michigan. She later retired from the 78th ABW/JA Legal Department at Robins Air Force Base after 37 years of service. A long-time faithful member of Southside Baptist Church, she was active in Dennis Clark’s Life Group class. Her spare time was filled with reading, playing video poker, baking cakes, staying in contact with her family and friends, and watching Alabama football. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Charles Ray Woods; her son, Steve Woods; and her brother, Robert Stonecypher.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Rebecca Cochran (Doug) of Warner Robins and Dennis Woods (Dawn) of Bolingbroke; grandchildren, Joshua Woods, Shane Cochran, Alyssa Riden (Anthony), James Robert Van Bibber (Lori) and Rachel Woods; step-grandchildren, Tyler Buell (Makeya), Justin Buell (Katelyn) and Kanlie Buell; great-grandchildren, Aiden Van Bibber, Will Van Bibber, Noah Buell, Jonah Buell, James Buell, Ayanna Brown, Jaxon Woods and Beau Riden; sisters, Dorothy Dye (James) and Mary O’Neal (Alton); along with a host of other loving family members and friends.
