Helen Surratt Fink, 93, a former long-time resident of Warner Robins, and most recently a resident of Charlotte, NC, died at her assisted living residence on Friday, January 4, 2008.
Helen was born on July 18, 1914 in Salisbury, NC and graduated from Catawba College with degrees in French and English. She later served as a teacher at Mount Ulla High School in NC. Some time after marrying Robert Brown Fink of Salisbury, NC, they moved to Warner Robins, where Helen resided for well over 50 years. She moved to Charlotte, NC in 2004 in order to be close to her only grandchild, but her heart and her friends were always in Warner Robins. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, parishioner, teacher, servant, friend, and neighbor. Helen was a charter member of All Saints Episcopal Church. Upon retirement from civil service as a payroll supervisor at Robins Air Force Base, she traveled extensively with many of her fellow All Saints parishioners. She was highly involved in the Episcopal Church Women’s group and also served as treasurer for All Saints Episcopal Church. Perhaps her most endearing quality was that of being a good and loyal friend that was dearly loved by many. Certainly some of her proudest moments would have been seeing her daughter graduate from medical school, her daughter’s wedding, seeing her new grandson for the first time, and going to the Mount Ulla High School reunions.
Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Moore and Kevin Moore; grandson George Robert Moore and several nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Robert Brown Fink; son George Robert Fink; brothers Homer Surratt, John Surratt, and Graham Surratt; sister JoAnn Nelson; and her parents Oscar B. and Beulah Myers Surratt.
Funeral services and burial for Helen will all take place in Warner Robins, where McCullough Funeral Home will be serving the family. The family will receive friends at McCullough Funeral Home on Friday, January 11, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery. Flowers are welcome.
