A Warner Robins native, Henry “Elton” Tucker, 85, passed away at Carl Vinson VA Medical Center, on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.
Elton was born in Warner Robins on October 12, 1937. He was the son of the late Burton and Alice Harper Tucker and grew up in Haynesville. As a young man, Elton served in the United States Navy. His commitment to his country continued as he began a career as an aircraft mechanic on Robins Air Force Base. He served at Robins Air Force Base for many years until his retirement.
Elton possessed a rare gift of connecting with people effortlessly, making everyone he encountered feel like a lifelong friend. He had an extraordinary talent for weaving stories together that left his audience captivated and inspired. Elton also had a passion for dancing and singing. A man of many interest, Elton often found solace and tranquility by the ocean. He enjoyed fishing and casting his line into the local creeks and ponds. He also took pleasure in watching the birds at his birdfeeders. He found joy in observing the busy lives of his feathered friends.
Above all, Elton’s family held a special place in his heart; he cherished his loved ones deeply. With kindness and gentleness at the core, Elton’s love was a pillar of strength and support. He treated others with respect, compassion, and a genuine interest in their well-being. His presence illuminated the lives of those around him.
A devout Christian, Elton's heart found its home in the dominion of the Assembly of God. His faith was a guiding light that provided him with strength, hope, and a sense of purpose throughout his life.
Elton touched our lives in profound ways, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his parents, Elton was preceded in death by his siblings, J.B. Tucker, Bonita Parker, Alice Roughton, and Connie Blum; as well as his sister-in-law, Geneva Holt Smith.
His memory will forever be treasured by his wife of 63 years, Frances Verneaze Smith Tucker; children, David Elton Tucker of Warner Robins, and Debra Tucker Carlisle (James) of Milledgeville; grandchildren, Chris Tucker and Clayton Tucker of Warner Robins, and Tucker Carlisle of Milledgeville; great-grandchildren, Peyton Tucker and Chloe Tucker of Warner Robins; brother, Ed Tucker of Macon; and brother-in-law, Darrell Smith (Albany); as well as several other extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, October 2, 2023, from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Henry “Elton” Tucker will be laid to rest in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Henry “Elton” Tucker to the Friends of Perry Animal Shelter (FOPAS) at 204 Kellwood Dr., Perry, Georgia 31069.
