Herbert “Freddie” Meadows died Monday, May 12, 2003, at a local hospital. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 4462 Houston Ave., Macon, GA 31206.
Mr. Meadows was born in Macon to the late Eugene H. Meadows, Sr., and Estelle Latham Meadows. He served our country for 5 years in the United States Army and 23 years in the U.S. Army Reserves, earning the rank of Master Sergeant before his retirement. During the Korean War, he served for 14 months in direct combat, including Heartbreak Ridge. He was awarded the Purple Heart and five Bronze Stars. He was retired also from civil service at Robins Air Force Base, where he had worked as a supply clerk. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughter, Sheree Mixon (Mike), Macon; sons, Rick Meadows (Mary), Fredricksburg, VA; and Randy Meadows (Kay), Macon; five grandchildren, Randi Mullis, Robbi Mixon, Catherine Meadows, Wesley Meadows, and Shelly Beth Meadows; and cousins, Louise M. Adams, Warner Robins, and James J. Meaders, Birmingham, AL. He will also be greatly missed by many other family members and friends.
