Herbert James Sipes

December 21, 1933 — February 21, 2009

With the joy and peace that only Jesus Christ can give, Herbert James Sipes, Sr., 75, found eternal rest with his Savior on Saturday, February 21, 2009. For several weeks he had endured multiple complications from heart surgery at a Macon hospital.

Born and raised in Columbus, Arkansas, he is the son of the late Joe Herbert Sipes and Sibbie Taylor Sipes. He is now reunited with his wife of forty-five years, Juanita Smith Sipes, who passed in November 2008.

Herb served two years in the Army and was a loyal employee to Western Electric/AT&T for thirty-eight years. He was a charitable farmer, skilled welder, avid fisherman, Purple Martin conservator, awarded bowler and loyal sports fan. He enjoyed cooking for the Pioneers, brotherhood breakfasts, church fish fries and his own growing family. His charitable heart was seen as guest always left with the fruit of his labor—from pecans to peppers.

He can be described as loyal, noble, faithful, patient, honest, reliable and well-humored: a man of deep character. The character he exemplified was rooted in his personal relationship with Jesus that began at the age of twelve.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, James and Kathy Sipes, Belvidere, New Jersey; Angela and Walter Arroyo, Birmingham, Alabama; Johnny and Andrea Sipes, Warner Robins; Deborah and Bill Priest, Cordele; thirteen grandchildren, HJ, Michael, Stefan, Ashleigh, Byron, Ansel, William, Enoch, Conner, Levi, Simeon, Sibbie, Benjamin; siblings, John Sipes, Nashville, Arkansas; Bonnie Jo Bramhall, Austin, Texas; Dimmer Evans, Dallas, Texas, and uncle, Homer Taylor, Warner Robins.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 24, 2009, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hospice of Central Georgia 3780 Eisenhower Parkway, Macon, Georgia, 31206 or Simple Message Ministries P.O. Box 10222 Warner Robins, Georgia, 31095
