Hildegard Maria East

January 11, 1939 — October 18, 2022

Hildegard Maria East "Gardy, Omi, Omi Bear", age 83 of Warner Robins, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at home with family by her side after battling a long illness. She lived with her daughter Linda and son-in-law, Lee in Warner Robins, GA, for the last two years of her life.

Gardy was born on January 11, 1939, to the late Otto Neumann and Margarette Warshun in Gruehnheyn, East Prussia. She walked with her family into West Germany after the Russian Annexation of East Germany. Gardy was married to the late Franklin East, Sr., in December of 1962. Gardy became a naturalized American citizen in 1963. She worked hard to get her degree in Data Processing and graduated in 1977. Gardy worked for St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA, until 1984 when she sold her home to be near her sister in Ormond Beach, FL. There she made many friends that she loved dearly. Gardy never met a stranger, loved to cook the most amazing food, and was an amazing singer. Most of all, Gardy loved her family and was immensely proud of all of them. She also loved life. Gardy always said even in her weakest moments of illness and treatment, "Thank you God, thank you guardian angel."

"We live to die. It is what you do in between that makes the difference." That was her motto and she always reminded me of it after being diagnosed with cancer. She also said that she was going to come back as a dolphin and bite everyone in the behind.

Gardy is survived by four children, Tamme Brown (Dan) of Oregon City, Oregon, Marvin East (Lorrie) of Port St. Lucie, FL, Linda Vanosdol (Lee) of Warner Robins, GA, and Franklin East Jr. (Gale) of Union City, PA, eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.

A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. The family will then travel to Florida for a celebration of life. The family request that if you do anything, help them in the fight to finding a cure for cancer.
