Howard "Ray" Athon, Jr.

Howard "Ray" Athon, Jr., 67, entered into rest on Thursday, November 6, 2008.

Mr. Athon was born on February 5, 1941, in Montezuma, Georgia. A graduate from John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science, Nashville, Tennessee, he attended Georgia Tech in Atlanta. He was a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in the state of Georgia and a licensed insurance agent for Independent Life Insurance Company. He most recently owned and operated Check Guard Systems for ten years. He was of the Pentecostal faith and a member of New Faith Baptist Church. His parents, Howard R. Athon, Sr., and Azelle Poss Athon, preceded him in death.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Sandra Graham Athon; sons, James Ray Athon (Kim), Oxford, Alabama, David Eric Athon (Selena), Chula, Georgia, and Allen Bradley Athon (April), Macon; brother, James William (Pat) Athon, Killen, Alabama; grandchildren, Charis, Kristen and Katie Athon, Oxford, Alabama, Coty and Scarlett Hogan, Chula, Georgia, and Brayleigh Athon, Macon; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, November 7, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2008, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
