Howard Troy Shuttlesworth, Jr.

Troy Shuttlesworth, Jr. went to be with the Lord in Heaven on the evening of Friday, January 20, 2023. He passed away peacefully after 84 years well-lived.

Born on March 5, 1938 in Lucille, AL. Troy grew up in the Warner Robins, GA area where he knew everybody in town. Troy graduated in 1956 from Warner Robins High School, where he was on the very first football team. He was one of the biggest Demon’s fans and member of the Warner Robins High School booster for numerous years. He loved cheering for the red and white on Friday nights. In his earlier years, he enjoyed coaching midget league football and baseball; his great sense of humor and big smile left him a coveted coach by all of the youth. He retired with 38 years of Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base as a Computer Program Analyst in the Directorate of Distribution. He then became an entrepreneur of Southern Traditions Contracting company, building homes around the Central GA area. Around town, he was known as “The Black Hat Guy” who wore his black cowboy hat and cowboy boots and driving his black 1939 Ford Rat Rod truck everywhere. Troy was also known for his street rods and was the proud event director of Good Guys Street Rods. He absolutely loved to race and build cars; he was by far the best car fabricator. Over his lifetime he accumulated an infinite number of awards at numerous car events ranging from the fastest 55' Chevy, running in the Pro Stock NHRA circuit sponsored by Kendall Oil driving the 1967 Plymouth aka The Witch Doctor, being best in show with his 1932 Ford Roadster and 1932 Ford 3-Window Coupe that he built. Alongside his multiple car awards he was also recognized for his many awards with his English bulldog “Chief”.

When Troy wasn’t gallivanting around town, at the Demon games, coaching, or building and racing cars, he loved visiting the beach house, fishing and supporting the Florida State Seminoles. In addition, he never missed an episode of “Big Foot” or “Street Outlaws” and was always tuned in for Shark Week each summer. On top of all of his interests and hobbies, he was very well known for that sweet tooth of his. He always said if you eat something salty you must end with something sweet. Troy loved doing anything that involved family and friend time. He had a very special relationship with everyone and left countless memories for them to carry with them in their hearts forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Christine and Howard Shuttlesworth, Sr.; his daughter, Christy Skinner; and his brother, Joe Shuttlesworth, Sr.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Elaine Shuttlesworth of Warner Robins; children, Randy Shuttlesworth (Julie) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Cheryl Sorrow (Tommy) of Bonaire, GA, Rusty Shuttlesworth (Lori) of Madison, GA and Dusty Shuttlesworth (Roxey) of Warner Robins, GA; son-in-law, Tommy Skinner of Kathleen, GA; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Patricia Ezell (David) of Byron, GA; and nephews and nieces, Sandi Couillard, Joe Jr Shuttlesworth, Paula Ezell, Rhonda Barnwell, Jason Ezell, Jenny Ezell, and Judkin and Jeremy Browning.

Visitation with Troy’s family will be Thursday, January 26, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2023, at Second Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Perdue officiating. Troy will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery following the service.
