Hugh G. "Jerry" Underwood

Jerry Underwood, 90, passed into the hands of his Lord on Monday, October 1, 2018.

Jerry was born in Livermore, Kentucky on May 17, 1928 to the late James A. and Eva L. Underwood. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. Subsequent to his military retirement, he served as a scheduling and maintenance controller for Hawaiian Airlines for many years. Jerry enjoyed golfing, carpentry, traveling, and spending time with his family in his free time. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Winona Irene Underwood; and his second wife, Jeanette Joyce Reid Underwood.

Jerry’s memory will forever be treasured by his loving children, Dora Radcliff of Castle Rock, Colorado, Marsha Scruton of Raleigh, North Carolina, Eva Robinson (David) of Lecanto, Florida, Mark Underwood (Cindy) of Waynesville, North Carolina and Zabrina Cannady (Chris) of Warner Robins; stepchildren, Sharon O’Neal of Mobile, Alabama, Bill Shurett of Pace, Florida and Becky Shurett of Warner Robins; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, Glen Underwood (Mary) of Louisville, Kentucky; and sister, Opal Whobrey of Evansville, Indiana.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 6, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Pat Chastain officiating. Following the service, Jerry will be laid to rest in a private committal service for the family in Parkway Memorial Gardens.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Jerry to the Wounded Warrior Project Foundation, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
