Hulda Summer Robuck, age 85, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002. Services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, May 25, in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, Warner Robins, GA. Visitation will be Friday from 7:00 until 9:00pm at McCullough Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Mrs. Robuck’s memory to the Houston County Public Library, 721 Watson Blvd, Warner Robins, GA 31093.
Mrs. Robuck was born in Greenwood, South Carolina, the daughter of Linda Miller Summer and John Ernest Summer. She grew up in Newberry, South Carolina, and Cordele, Georgia. She attended Valdosta State College for Women until she married Barnwell L. Robuck in 1935. She moved to Warner Robins, GA, in 1942. In 1952 she opened the Briarpatch Kindergarten. In 1970 she opened The Bookshop, which she operated until 2000, when she retired.
Mrs. Robuck was the first woman to run for elected office in Warner Robins. She was the first employee of the Warner Robins Sun, later the Daily Sun. She founded the first Brownie Scout troop in Warner Robins. She served on the Warner Robins City Library Board and later the Houston County Library Board for many years. She was a founding member of the Ocmulgee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barnwell L. Robuck, and her sister, Martha Summer Wilder.
Survivors: daughters, Linda R. Hoffman of Anderson, SC, Lola R. Josey of St. Simons Island, GA, Summer “Suzi” R. Walker of Warner Robins, GA; son, John L. Robuck of Arlington, VA; sisters, Marion S. Monts and Linda M. Summer of Florence, SC; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
