Jackie Ray Dunlap

June 26, 1945 — March 28, 2023

U.S. Vietnam Army Veteran and tried and true cowboy, Jackie Ray Dunlap, rode off into an eternal sunset on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 28, 2023. He passed away peacefully at home with family by his side.

Born in Charleston, WV on June 26, 1945, Jackie was the son of the late Arlett Ray Dunlap and Doris June Kramer and was of the Pentecostal faith. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and retired from Anchor Glass with over 30 years of dedicated service. Jackie was successful in his working career, but shined even brighter in his duties at home and with his family; he was a great husband, father, grandfather and provider who showered each member of his family with a once in a lifetime love.

Additionally, Jackie was steadfast in his faith for the Lord and genuinely loved others as Jesus would. He was an extremely kind, friendly and outgoing man who never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with a smile and open arms. A busy bee and never idle, Jackie enjoyed hunting, fishing and mechanic work when he wasn’t working his full-time job. He was a true Westerns aficionado (especially of the John Wayne flicks) and loved everything “cowboy,” especially horses and six-shooters. Jackie’s love and admiration for family and friends, the Lord, and timeless pleasures found in old Western movies will forever live in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Joe Dunlap.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 56 years, Wilma Lee Dunlap of Bonaire; sons, Jack Joseph Dunlap of Bonaire and Jason Patrick Dunlap (Angela) of Perry; daughter-in-law, Lisa M. Dunlap of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Tyler James Dunlap, Isabella Vianne Dunlap and Austin Tyler Warren; and nephew, Jeffrey Joe Dunlap.

Jackie’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to those who showed their love and support from the staff at Enhabit Hospice of Houston County, to Kellie Loyd and Priscilla Wootan at Enhabit Hospice of Macon and to Jennifer Wood, Latosha Triplet and Dr. Chad Potts at the Dublin VA Medical Center.
