It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Jackson Andrew Smith on Saturday, July 22, 2023. Jackson, a beloved son and brother, left this world far too soon at the Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, Georgia, due to an accidental overdose. He was 27 years old.
Throughout his life, Jackson longed to find a solution that would ease his inner turmoil and make him feel at ease in his own skin. Unfortunately, this quest led him down a treacherous path of self-medication, which ultimately resulted in a tragic battle with addiction. Despite the darkness that engulfed him, Jackson never stopped fighting. For the last five years of his life, he valiantly struggled against the grips of addiction, seeking solace and redemption through multiple rehab attempts and second chances.
Finally, in Charlotte, he found a glimmer of hope. It was as if a new chapter had begun. His personality shone once again, and his humor brightened the lives of those around him. He embraced vulnerability and freely shared his emotions and love, touching the hearts of those who knew him. For his family, these last two years were a gift, filled with beauty and hope, allowing them to witness Jackson's resilience and determination to find a better life, which he so deeply deserved.
This epidemic has touched the lives of countless individuals, and in sharing the cause of his passing, the family hopes to help others in need, to remind them that there is support and a path to healing.
As we say our final goodbyes to Jackson Andrew Smith, let us honor his memory by supporting one another and fostering understanding and compassion for those who battle with addiction. In unity, may we strive to bring an end to the pain and suffering caused by this epidemic.
