James Delmus Carter

James Delmus "J.D." Carter, 80, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2010 after a lengthy illness.

J.D. was born on February 10, 1930 in Scott, Georgia. With great pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Army and Air Force, working as a fire fighter and a crew chief on the KC97. He also worked on the Hound Dog Missiles, served in several recon missions, and participated in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retiring from military service, he worked for Maney Aircraft and Overseas National Airways. He later retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base as a Quality Control Inspector. Additionally, J.D. worked at Pinckney Pharmacy delivering medicine to the home bound and for Five Star Mazda in the parts department. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and mechanic. He loved his church and served as deacon, usher and greeter for many years. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmie Smith Carter and George Dayton Carter; parents, James Cleo Carter and Ida Estes Smith Carter.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Carol Wilson Carter; children, Darleen Miller (Steve), Centerville, Janet Gordon (Tim), Rochelle, Judy Carter, Pooler, Gloria Teel (Bryan), Byron; brother, Jerry Carter, Williamsburg, Virginia; sister, Pat Joiner, Bonaire; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 3, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Central Baptist Church, Reverends Joel Carter and Sidney Odom officiating. Interment will follow in Parkway Memorial Gardens.
