James Hatcher Graham, Jr., 80, entered into rest on Saturday, February 25, 2023.
Hatcher was born on August 28, 1942, in Newport, Tennessee to the late James, Sr. and Evelyn Graham. Hatcher graduated from Cocke County High School in Cocke County, Tennessee. He’d go on attend both Tennessee Wesleyan University and the University of Tennessee, where he’d earn his Doctorate in Law. Hatcher honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a Judge Advocate, serving in Vietnam era, Panama, Granada, and First Gulf Conflict. He received the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, and the Presidential Unit Citation, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a member of many civic organizations. He was in The Rotary Club from 1989-2023. During that time, he was a Paul Harris Fellow, Will Wyatt Fellow, a district governor for one year, and president for one year. He was an Emeritus member of the CGTC Foundation Board of Trustees and a member of Middle Georgia Technical College Foundation Board of Trustees since 2006. Here, he served as board chair and provided legal expertise that was instrumental in assisting with the MGTC Foundation merger into what is now the CGTC Foundation. He also faithfully served on the board of Abilities Discovered since it began in 1987, along with many various committees at Christ United Methodist Church throughout the years. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golfing, and traveling both on cruises and by land.
In addition to his parents, Hatcher was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank Graham and Timothy Graham.
His memory will forever be treasured by his wife of 25 years, Nancy Boling Graham; his sons, Jon Graham (Bridget) of Aurora, Colorado, and Gavin Graham (Robin) of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, James Graham, Bridget Deryn Brown, and Desmond Graham; step-son, Bill Lampley (Tammy) of Montezuma, GA; step-grandson, Doug Lampley of Perry, GA; nieces and nephews, Brian Graham (Jennifer) of Hickory, North Carolina, Parry Graham (Betsy) of Concord, Massachusetts, Christopher Graham (Rhiannon) of Asheville, North Carolina, Christy Boling of Savannah, GA, and Cathy Webster of Smithville, North Carolina.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 4, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of James Hatcher Graham, Jr. to Tunnels to Towers at 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306 or Christ United Methodist Church at 511 Russell Pkwy, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
