Mr. James M. Dortch, 75, died Wednesday October 1, 2003 in a local hospital. Services will be held on Friday, October 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Southside Baptist Church. Interment with full military honors will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home.

Born in McVay, AL, Mr. Dortch was the son of the late James Clarence and Medie Sarah Dortch. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served during both the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict, retiring at the rank of Technical Sergeant. While in the Air Force, he worked with missionaries and pastors, helping to start four churches. He was also retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base.
Mr. Dortch was a former deacon of Southside Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class, the Amazing Grays, and the Financial and Planning Committees. Also active in the community, he was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, National Rifle Association, and Georgia Sheriff’s Association, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Anna C. Dortch, Kathleen; sons, Michael W. Dortch, Jones County; James R. Dortch, Thomasville; and Andy Dortch, Oglethorpe; daughter, Janet Poston, Indiana; sister, Cora McElhaney, Cantonement, FL; brothers, Eugene Dortch and J.C. Dortch, both of Century, FL; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
