Mr. James R. “Sweetie” Jones, 62, passed away on July 21, 2004 in his home. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on July 23 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Interment will be private. Visitation will be Thursday from 7 until 9 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Southern Care Hospice, 3330 Northside Drive, Suite 106, Macon, GA 31210.
Born in Chauncey, Georgia, Mr. Jones was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a retired Iron Worker of the Local 387. A renown musician, he lead Sweetie Jones and the Messengers and performed throughout the United States as the opening act for Jerry Lee Lewis and Ricky Nelson. In addition, he traveled all across Middle Georgia performing his solo act. He was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2002. Mr. Jones was of the Baptist faith. His father, Charlie C. Jones, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Fran M. Jones, Warner Robins; mother, Lillie Mae Jones, Lizella; sons, Daryl Jones, Warner Robins, and Randy Jones, Macon; daughters, Sherry Partain and Christie Carter, both of Warner Robins; sisters, Joyce Kirkland, Macon, and Gayle Riddle and Dot Ryles, both of Lizella; and seven grandchildren: Chadd Jones, Brett Partain, Blake Partain, Cody Carter, Ben Grinstead, Zachary Adcock, and Emily Partain.
