Lifelong Middle Georgia Resident, U.S. Navy Veteran and devoted family man, Ron Burnette, walked into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on the afternoon of Monday, October 17, 2022. He was 86 years old.
Ron was born in Macon, GA on September 25, 1936 to the late Elmer and Willie B. Burnette. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, the Navy Reserves and the U.S. Air Force Reserves before continuing to serve his country in Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base.
A faithful and longtime member of Unity Baptist Church, he enjoyed serving as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. It was his devout faith and love for his Savior that sustained him through his life. “Mr. Ron,” as he was affectionately called, enjoyed playing and coaching baseball and softball in his earlier years. He was a former President of WRALL and spent many a day and night on the fields umpiring and officiating baseball, softball and football. Ron was also a talented artist who loved to draw. Everyone who knew him will forever remember the deep love he had for his family, for Christ, and for the tight bear hugs only he could give.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy and Royce Burnette.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara Evans Burnette; daughters, Barbara “Bobbie” Loyd and Connie Greene; son, Steve Burnette; grandchildren, Joseph Loyd (Jamie), Chadwick Loyd, Eric Greene, Josh Greene, Lora Burnette, Stephanie Burnette, Alexandra Harris (Torey) and Piper Burnette; great-grandchildren, Mia Loyd, Marley Loyd, and one on the way, Crew Harris; niece, Sherry Murphy; nephew, Darrell Burnette (Susan); and great nieces and nephews, Alyssa, Adam, Lucy and Will.
Visitation will be Monday, October 24, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home.
