On Tuesday, August 31, 2021, Sonny Roberts was welcomed into the arms of his Savior.
On December 8, 1945, Sonny was born in College Park, Georgia, to the late Agnes Ruth and James Oren, Jr. He attended technical school in Clarkesville, Georgia, before becoming an excellent machinist and welder. Sonny enjoyed creating items and took great pride in his work.
Soon after completing his schooling, he joined the United States Navy where he proudly served for several years during the Vietnam War. Sonny was a man of integrity who loved God and his country deeply. Not long after his discharge from the US Navy, he met the love of his life, Melanie. Above all, Sonny was passionate about leading others to the Lord and showing them His love.
He is survived by his adoring wife of 54 years, Melanie Nobles Roberts of Byron; daughters, Sunny Brook Watson (Kirk) of Warner Robins; and Katie Berry of Byron; three beloved grandchildren, Anthony, Joshua, and Sam; siblings, Donna Dailey of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Rita Steele of Atlanta; and Paul Roberts of Lindale; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
The memorial service celebrating Sonny’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Reverend Herb Dean officiating. Family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service. Sonny’s inurnment will be private. For friends and family unable to attend, the service will be streamed live via the McCullough Funeral Home Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mcculloughfuneralhome/live/.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of James “Sonny” Oren Roberts, III to Disabled Veterans of America: Department of Georgia, 4462 Houston Ave., Macon, Georgia 31206.
