Janice Allison Pope was born on March 20, 1943 in Burlington, North Carolina, and entered the gates of heaven on June 18, 2023 after a life well lived. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Mable Allison; and her brother, Bill Allison. She is survived by her sons, Tim Pope and Tony (Ann) Pope; and her brother, Darrell Allison. She had five grandchildren, Jake (Tiana) Pope, Cayton (Ryan) Pope, Jordie (Logan) Holland, Phillip Bloodworth, and Morgan (Justin) Tapia. She also had eight great-grandchildren, Rileigh, Grayson, Braden, William, Daniel, Evie, Chandler and Tate.
Janice was a lifetime animal lover and was especially fond of her cats. She also had many sweet memories of her childhood horse, “Charley Bob.” Over the years she rescued many animals and was a volunteer with the Humane Society.
Janice was an exceptionally loving mother who made many, many sacrifices to give her boys, Tim and Tony, the very best life she could. She was a single mom who worked two jobs while maintaining a 4.0 average and earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. She also established her own very successful accounting business, Pope Associates. Her incredible work ethic allowed her to support her boys and provide them with opportunities to travel with her throughout their childhood.
Janice was an avid reader, played piano, and traveled all over the United States and Europe. She was also very active in her community including holding many leadership positions in the North Carolina Society of Accountants, membership in the Kiwanis Club, and working backstage for the Matthews Community Theater.
Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye and she loved making sure they had pizza, cookies, and buckets of ice cream during their visits. She enjoyed taking them swimming and visiting museums in the area. They have many fond memories of catching fireflies, tickle attacks, playing Uno, and eating dinner on t.v. trays while watching game shows.
Janice’s last years were made exceedingly happy and content by the wonderful staff of Brightmore Hospice and Madison Heights Memory Care. Her hospice nurses, Paula Stark, Megan Pass, Felicia Johnson and Tantresse Drawhorn loved her well and cared for her in an exceptionally compassionate way. She loved them very much and her family is eternally grateful to them for their dedication and extraordinary care.
A memorial gathering with family and friends will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Janice will be laid to rest at Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington, North Carolina, at a later date.
