Jean K. Coleman

December 26, 1928 — March 30, 2009

Jean K. Coleman, 80, passed on March 30, 2009. Jean was born on December 26, 1928 in Memphis, TN. She is preceded in death by Elzie and Sadie Kressenberg (parents), Doris Kressenberg and Joan Vann (sisters), Lt. John Kressenberg and Bill Kressenberg (brothers).

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 59 years, Robert E. Coleman, Helen Killebrew (sister) and Dr. Kenneth Kressenberg (brother). Jean was devoted to her family and believed this to be her highest calling. Her life and loving example will be forever cherished by her (Daughters) Charlotte (Bill) Mosteller , Edmond, OK; Cathy (Alan) Dooley, Centerville, GA; (Sons) Robert E. "Dusty" Coleman, Jr., Warner Robins, GA; John (Teri) Coleman, Rockbridge Baths, VA; Craig (Marti) Coleman, Tucker, GA; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She also loved and faithfully served God, her church and community. Jean and her family joined Trinity United Methodist Church in 1960. At Trinity she served in many capacities from youth counselor to worship chairman. It was her involvement in Church Women United where she birthed the idea for a childcare facility to meet the needs of both single working women and parents who both worked outside the home; thus was born what is known today as "Cherished Children Day Care." In addition, she chartered the first Head Start program in Warner Robins.

Whenever Jean saw a need or an opportunity to improve her community, she either initiated the first steps or rallied others to the cause. Her impact was known whether serving on the city Planning and Zoning Committee, the Community Concert Association, Ecumenical Affairs, Warner Robins Little Theatre, Board of Realtors or the many other organizations to which she devoted her time and talents. She was truly an inspiration to many and lived her life in service to others.

After her husband's retirement from the Air Force, she started a successful real estate career and later became the co-founder and president of Golden Key Realty. Among her numerous awards in her 25 year real estate career was the honor of being selected as the 1979 Georgia Realtor of the Year.

Despite her diagnosis and debilitative progression of Parkinson's disease, she continued to champion the causes that were dear to her heart. Her fingerprint on our community will continue to be recognized and valued for many years to come.
