Jean S. Smithers passed away on Monday, January 5, 2004 at her residence. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 8 at Trinity United Methodist Church with interment following in Parkway Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be immediately preceding the service from 12:00 until 2:00 pm at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Hospice of Central Georgia.
Mrs. Smithers was born in Salley, SC, and was a homemaker for most of her life. Prior to homemaking, she was a nurse in Aiken. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Trinity UM Woman’s Club, and a former member of the Trinity UM Choir. She was also a member of the Warner Robins Woman’s Club, and was elected Woman of the Year, a statewide honor, for 1979-1980. She was a member of the Greenbriar Garden Club, the Robinette’s Homemakers Club, and the Flint Electric Co-Op. Her husband, Charles Joseph Smithers, and parents, Thomas and Gladys Sawyer, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Joseph Smithers, Jr. and wife Cynthia, Greenville, SC; David Price Smithers, Augusta, GA; Kenneth Michael Smithers, Warner Robins; granddaughter, Tamara Smithers, Seattle, WA; sister, Carol E. Watson, Eatonton, NC: and sister-in-law, Christine Sawyer, Aiken, SC.
