Jerry "Grandy" Crane

December 12, 1932 — October 17, 2021

Jerry “Grandy” Crane, a one-of-a-kind, true Southern gentleman, went to be with his Lord and Savior, on the evening of Sunday, October 17, 2021. He was born in Jackson, Georgia, on December 12, 1932, the son of the late Joel V. and Thelma Turner Crane.

A Civil Service retiree, Grandy dedicated a number of years as Gyro Specialist at Robins Air Force Base. He was a faithful believer in Jesus, and an avid Bible reader who loved attending Sunday School, singing in the choir, and fellowshipping with the members of Central Baptist Church.

Grandy had many interests that kept him busy including being a green thumb gardener, choosing cantaloupes and tomatoes, listening to all types of music (loudly!), seeing fireworks and air shows, grilling, and indulging in all things sweet! To boot, he was a proud painter, master yardsaler/treasure finder, champion “jitter bugger,” catfish lover, and the most fun bubble blower and swing sitter around. Grandy was a frequenter of Nu-Way and Hardee’s and loved taking all of the neighborhood kids to Six Flags, as well. When he wasn’t out and about, you could most likely find him watching The Andy Griffith Show and Matlock (he couldn’t believe Andy and Matlock were the same person), and old movies, especially ‘Gone with the Wind.’

Christmas was truly the most wonderful time of the year for Grandy. He was a perfectionist Christmas tree decorator and was known as “the doll man” around the holidays. Grandy always looked forward to having all of his family together in one place, especially the grands and great-grands. He lived a life full of richness, family, friends and love. Grandy leaves behind so many that will remember his smile and laughter that were never in short supply.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Wayne Crane and Marion Long.

Those left to cherish Grandy’s memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Florine Hobbs Crane of GA; his children, Joel M. Crane (Cindy) of FL, and Robbie Lynn Cantrell, Lisa King (Sam) and Kristi Sorrow, all of GA; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanene Fitzgerald of GA; and cousins, Jill Williamson and Terri Mulkey.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 19, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, with Dr. Bob Dilks officiating.
