Jerry Leon Payton, 83, of Warner Robins, passed away at home on October 2nd.
Jerry was born on August 18, 1938 in Trion, Georgia to Robert and Narcissis Payton of Anderson, South Carolina. Jerry joined the Navy in the 1950s and served during the Vietnam War. He spent almost 17 years in the Navy and achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer before retiring from service. The rest of Jerry's career was spent repairing electronics on airplanes as a civilian contractor on bases in South Carolina and Georgia. Other than spending time with his family and playing golf, Jerry's favorite pastime was reliving his days in the Navy.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Walker Payton; six children, Lynn and Rick Molen of Leonardstown, MD; Debbie and Mike Weinrich of Colton's Point, MD; Jerry Jr. and Patty Payton of Buffalo, IA; Denise Beckham of Warner Robins; James and Celeste Payton of Hartselle, Alabama; and Nancy Bush of Warner Robins; sister, Catherine Payton and brother, Doug and Debra Payton, all of Andersonville, SC, nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Billy Payton; and son-in-law, James Bush.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 6th at McCullough Funeral Home at 1 pm with services following at 2 pm. Graveside services will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery, 205 S Pleasant Hill Road in Warner Robins where Jerry will be interred in the Veterans Memorial Section with military honors.
