Early on the morning of Saturday, September 9, 2023, Jimmie Lee Hobby, 74, entered into the gates of heaven.
Jimmie was born on November 27, 1948, in Fort Valley, Georgia to the late Willie Roy and Edith Belle Hobby. He grew up in Fort Valley and graduated from Fort Valley High School in 1966. While in high school Jimmie attended a wedding that would alter the direction of his life when he met Ester Yaughn; she quickly became the great love of his life. They married in 1968 and soon began their family. Professionally, Jimmie worked with the Fort Valley Utilities Department as a Gas Superintendent for over twenty years. Following this, he began working at Blue Bird, where he dedicated many years of service until his retirement in 2009. Jimmie was a longtime member of the First Church of the Nazarene where he was active in many things, including participating in missions to Haiti. He most recently attended Harmony Community Church. Personally, Jimmie had a big personality, a quick laugh, and the ability to make others feel like they were the most important person in the room. He enjoyed golfing and watching NASCAR, but he absolutely loved his Georgia Bulldogs! On fall weekends he loved to welcome anyone and everyone to his home to watch football, eat great food, and just enjoy time together. However, without a doubt, to know Jimmie was to know that the thing he loved most in the world was to spend time surrounded by the family he treasured, and the friends that added so much joy to his life. Being a dad, grandfather, husband, and friend was something he excelled at – and his absence in the lives of all who were lucky to know him will be deeply felt. The memories he leaves, though, will bring countless smiles and laughter for years to come…and that is exactly how he would want it. Jimmie was preceded in death by his adopted sister, Linda Sue Howell, and a fur-baby, Carter.
His memory will forever be treasured by his adoring wife of fifty-five years, Ester Yaughn Hobby; children, Michelle Hobby (Somer), Michael Hobby (Lauren); granddaughter, Alayna Brooke Skipper (Andrew), Jacob “Jake” M. Hobby, Madison G. Hobby; great grandchildren, Chloe Skipper, Erin Skipper and Cullen Skipper; brother, Jody R. Hobby (Debra), adopted sister, Shirley Higgins (Keith), and his beloved fur-baby, Oliver.
