Jimmy Neil Childs

June 19, 1935 — April 4, 2025

Jimmy Neil Childs, 89, died on April 4, 2025, in Perry, Georgia, where he had been residing in Summerhill Andrews Terrace.

Jimmy was born June 19, 1935, in Kathleen, Georgia, to the late John S. and Lillian E. Jones Childs. He was the sixth of seven children, and grew up on several farms in the Bonaire area. After graduating from Warner Robins High School in 1955, and serving in the US Army for two years (including time in Budingen, Germany), he worked his entire career at Southern Bell (later AT&T), primarily located at Robins Air Force Base. He lived in Warner Robins for 61 years before moving to assisted living in Perry. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling “out west” in the US, reading Western books, going out to dinner, and driving to Bonaire to visit his many friends – and sometimes even helping by driving a tractor.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Angelyn Holmes Childs. He was also preceded by his brothers, Steve, Marvin, Ray, Ernest, Bobby, and his sister Helen.

Surviving Jimmy are his two daughters, Beth Fenwick (Stephen) and Susan Payne (Tracy); six grandchildren, Julie Navickas (Randy), Laura Schuck (EJ), Katherine Laco (Pedro), Allie Payne, Childs Payne, and Mary Wade Payne. Additionally, there are six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
