"JN" Stokes, 80, entered into rest on Wednesday, August 26, 2009.
The owner-operator of J.N. Stokes and Son excavating, he was born on October 3, 1928 in Wrightsville. He married the love of his life, Etheel Manning Stokes, in Toombs County on December 24, 1947. Mr. Stokes was a member of Hayneville Assembly of God; his faith in Christ guided him in all that he did and was transparent to all who knew him. A devoted family man, he was loved and respected greatly by them and will be truly missed. His parents, David Stokes and Lucille Price Stokes, and brother, H. L. Stokes, preceded him in death.
He will forever live in the hearts of his wife, Etheel Stokes, Bonaire; sons, Larry Stokes (Margaret), Bonaire; Tarrell Stokes (Becky), Bonaire; Freddy Stokes (Carolyn), Fort Walton Beach, Florida; and Tommy Stokes (Lori), Hayneville; daughter, Nancy Stokes Fisher (Daveyjohn), Kathleen; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren; brothers, Pete Stokes and Freeman Stokes; sister, Betty Wilkes; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, August 28, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2009, at Southside Baptist Church, the reverends Marcus Johnson, Gene McKinney and Robert Varnadoe officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hayneville Assembly of God Building Fund, P. O. Box 67, Clinchfield GA 31013.
