On the morning of Thursday, June 13, 2024, Joan Evelyn Guthrie peacefully joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in heaven.
Joan Evelyn Guthrie was born in Jersey City, New Jersey; she was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph L. and Evelyn Kelly Hansberry. For the last three years, Joan was a beloved resident of the LifeSpring Church Home in Fort Valley.
A devout Christian, Joan found purpose in her faith. She was formerly a member of Southside Baptist Church, Warner Robins Alliance Church (C&MA), and an active member of the First Christian Church in Perry for many years. Her devotion to Jesus was a guiding light that illuminated her interactions with everyone she encountered.
Joan's love extended to her husband, family, and friends. She possessed a radiant spirit that brought joy to those around her. Whether through a kind word, a gentle smile, or a heartfelt conversation, Joan had a remarkable ability to connect with others and share the love of her Savior.
Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched, leaving behind cherished memories and a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William H. Guthrie; and brother, Robert Hansberry.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, William “Bill” Guthrie, III (Vivian) of Mt. Orab, Ohio, and Patti Martin (Ken) of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Bethany and Jessica Martin; step-grandchildren, Shawn Conner, Terry McClellan, Brian Jones; as well as brother, Dr. William Hansberry (Alice); and sister-in-law, Val Hansberry.

A memorial gathering will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at First Christian Church in Perry with a celebration of life immediately following at 3:00 p.m. Afterward, Joan Evelyn Guthrie will be laid to rest in Springhead Cemetery in Lakeland, Florida. The family kindly request all attending her celebration of life to please wear bright colors in honor of Joan Evelyn Guthrie.
