Joann Chan

Joann Chan, 87, passed away on the morning of Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Houston Medical Center.

Born in Smiths Ferry, Pennsylvania, Joann was the daughter of the late Frances and Helen McCoy. Raised in East Liverpool, Ohio, Joann spent most of her adult life in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, where she developed an enduring love for Beaver Falls High School Basketball, and Coach Chan’s former players especially Bobby, Oscar, and Alvin.

A proud snowbird, Joann lived a fulfilling life between Bradenton, Florida, Lake Pymatuning, Ohio, and Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. Her later years were spent in Warner Robins, Georgia, with family.

Joann’s zest for life was evident in her passion for sports. She loved not just basketball but also golf, and was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She also took great pleasure in supporting the Lou Holts Hall of Fame.

Joann's social circle was enriched by her Eta Rho Sorority sisters, with whom she shared countless joyful moments and lifelong bonds. Her love for gambling, whether through mobile apps or at the casino, was matched only by her enthusiasm for winning playful five-dollar wagers from her nephews Mike and Bo.

Left to cherish Joann’s memory are her husband of 65 years, Frank Chan; nieces, Robin Hoskins (Ronnie), Becky McCoy (Bo), Cathy Decker (Kevin), nephew Mike McCoy (Irene), nine great nieces and nephews, and three great-great niece and nephews. 

Interment will be scheduled at a later date in East Liverpool, Ohio.
