Joseph (Joe) Keen Black, 76, died unexpectedly at his residence in Kathleen, Georgia on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. Joe was born in Macon, Georgia on January 8, 1942 to the late Jake and Imogene Black. He was married to Bunny Black, and together they enjoyed 54 years of marriage.
He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1965 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and later received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Georgia. Joe worked for the U.S. Air Force for over 33 years in civil service where he dedicated himself to logistics, maintenance, electronic warfare, and leadership development. Among other positions, Mr. Black served as the Associate Director of Maintenance for the U.S. Air Force in Washington, D.C. and as the Director of Technology and Industrial Support at the Ogden Air Logistics Center." His three plus decades of service included locations in Georgia, Ohio, Utah, and finally the Pentagon, where he was serving at the time of his retirement. He also worked for the Mercer Engineering Research Center (MERC) for 11 years. Joe was a dedicated member of the middle Georgia community and Shirley Hills Baptist Church. He always had a smile, a hello for friends and strangers, and a tune to whistle.
Joe is survived by his wife, Bunny Black; son, Kevin and his wife, Janneth, and grandsons, Kyle and Josh, of Sugar Hill, GA; son, Jeff and his wife, Callie, and grandson, Andy, and granddaughter, Delaney, of Denver, CO.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Shirley Hills Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. All are welcome to attend and join the family in celebrating Joe’s life. Interment will be private with family only attending. Joe will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of Joe be made to the Shirley Hills Baptist Church Building Fund, 615 Corder Road, Warner Robins, Georgia, 31088.
