John Douglas Mobley, Jr.

May 18, 1939 — April 7, 2022

CMSgt. John Douglas Mobley, USAF (Ret.) passed away unexpectedly while visiting his family in Washington State. He was 82 years old.

Born in Chester, South Carolina on May 18, 1939, John was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He joined the military on July 19, 1957 and served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He met his wife, a school teacher, in Thailand in 1967. John received several medals for his service, including the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Device, Vietnam Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He and his wife lived in Germany, England, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and then settled in Warner Robins. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant after more than 30 years of dedication to his country. After his retirement, he worked at Civil Service as a housing inspector at Robins Air Force Base until 2003. He enjoyed working with children at the after school church ministry at Covenant Presbyterian Church where he was a dedicated, faithful member. An avid Mustang fan, John was a member of the local Mustang Club, showing and earning many trophies for his car. He was also a member of TREA, the Retired Enlisted Association.

He was preceded in death by his father, John D. Mobley; mother, Earlise (Colvin) Mobley; and brother, Arthur Eugene “Shotgun” Mobley.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Watana Mobley; his daughter, Kelly Williams; son, Sam Mobley (Amanda); sisters, Virginia "Jenny" Mobley, Margaret Frances "Frankie" Mobley, and Lenora "Noie" Craven (John); brother, Samuel Gregg Mobley (Audrey); grandchildren, Cierra Mobley, Shae Garcia, Ryan Mobley, and Alexa Mobley; six great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, Bryan, Mike, Kyle, and Jana Rae..

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at McCullough Funeral Home. His memorial service will begin immediately following visitation at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest privately.
