John Erwin Lange
Warner Robins – John Erwin lange, 79, passed away at his residence on Friday, June 9, 2023.
John Was Born on July 12, 1943, in Lincoln, Nebraska to Erwin and Loree Lange. He spent his childhood near Portland, Oregon and graduated from Oregon State University with a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics. Upon graduation, he spent2 years with the Army, playing French horn with the Army Band at Fort Lewis, Washington. In 1969, he began his career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, retiring in 2006.
John met his future wife, Ruth, while in college and they were married in 1969. His career with USDA took him from Portland to Sioux Falls, South Dakota and finally to Washington, D.C. headquarters office. John and Ruth enjoyed most of their married life living with their two sons in Woodbridge, Virginia. In 2014, they relocated to Warner Robins, Georgia
From a very young age, John was involved with music, playing the trumpet, french horn, piano, and singing with church choirs. He directed his church choir in Virginia for over 25 years. He especially enjoyed singing or listening to gospel music. His other main interests were Lionel train collecting, gardening, and woodworking. Once, retired, John and Ruth enjoyed many trips overseas, and one of their favorites was going to Israel and walking in the footsteps of Jesus.
John was a lifelong Lutheran and was always a very active member in whatever church they attended, serving on church councils and special committees.
His memory will forever be treasured by his beloved wife of 53 years, Ruth Lange; children, David Lange and Michael Lange; daughters-in-law, Gaëlle Lange and Amy Lange; grandchildren, Emily Lange and Megan Lange; brother, Kenneth Lange; sister, Carol Lange; nephews, Steven and Brian Lange.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Warner Robins, with a graveside private memorial service at Andersonville National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in John’s memory may be made to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church or Samaritan’s Purse.
