John Henry Yarbrough, Sr. was surrounded by his family when he was welcomed into the arms of Jesus in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 12, 2022. He was 94 years old.
Born in Woodland, Alabama on January 30, 1928, John was the son of the late Robert Toombs Yarbrough and Mary Bertha Gross Yarbrough. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country for two years and was a World War II veteran. After the military, he attended Jacksonville State University in Alabama where he received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. He married his wife, Mary Jim Neese, in 1952. John spent 32 years working in civil service at Robins Air Force Base before his retirement. He then spent his golden years as an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman, and gardener. An active member of First Presbyterian Church of Warner Robins, John was both a deacon and an elder in his church. He will be forever cherished as a loving husband and father.
Those who will treasure his memory include his wife of 69 years, Mary Jim Yarbrough; children, John Henry Yarbrough, Jr. (Sharon) of Marietta, Lynn Yarbrough Fenton (Eric) of Forsyth, Keith Robert Yarbrough (Esther) of Warner Robins, and Mark Alan Yarbrough of Warner Robins; brother, William T. Yarbrough (Joann) of Ellijay; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at McCullough Funeral Home. His service will immediately follow visitation at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. John will be laid to rest at Magnolia Park Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made in John’s memory to First Presbyterian Church of Warner Robins, 1139 Watson Blvd., Warner Robins, GA 31088.
