John Howard McRae, 94, entered into rest on Monday, May 16, 2011.
Mr. McRae was born on January 24, 1917 in Mount Vernon, Georgia. John was married to his wife on January 23, 1938 and enjoyed this union for fifty seven years until her death. During this period, he enjoyed trips not only within the United States but to Mexico and Europe. It never mattered where he went; he was able to find someone he knew, someone who knew someone he knew or someone the other person knew. He never met a stranger. The highlights to his travels were a trip to the Ellen Dorn Castle in Scotland, the home of the McRae Clan, and a trip to Israel. John moved to Warner Robins, in 1944 where he worked as a federal employee for a couple of years until being employed by Butler Supply Company and later Parts Central for thirty five years as an auto parts salesman and later a warehouse manager.
John loved his Lord and his church, First Presbyterian Church of Warner Robins, where since 1945 he served as Elder, Trustee, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and in any other capacity needed. John also loved his family and his city which he would willingly join in any conversation regarding Warner Robins and its changes over the years. He loved to tell the story of how the church at one time was the train station and had to be pulled to its present position by a team of horses. Tweet is known for his sweets, divinity and fudge. He kept his doctors, nurses and medical assistants supplied with candy and never missed the chance to share his gift with others at the drop of the hat. John was a Master Degree Mason, Tyrian Lodge. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elisabeth Sanders McRae, his parents, Thomas J. and Marie S. McRae, and brothers, Jefferson McRae, David McRae, Allen McRae, and Thomas McRae.
Howard's memory will forever be treasured by his son, Michael S. McRae, Centerville; daughter, Valda Briant, Marietta; brother, Robert F. McRae, Chattanooga, Tennessee; grandchildren, Scott McRae (Carol), Meredith Luther (Michael), Adrienne Rudd (Robert), Kerri Briant; and great grandchildren, Conor, Cole and Ian John McRae, Samuel "Sam" and Emerson "Emmi" Luther, Ashley Byrd, and Mary Grace Rudd.
