John Joseph “Butch” Filetti, Jr., died on the morning of Monday, October 24, 2022, at the age of 73. He was born on April 4, 1949 in Bronx, New York to the late Hazel Margaret Johnson and John Joseph Filetti, Sr. and was the youngest of three children.
Although he was born in the bustling borough of The Bronx, Butch was a country boy at heart. His fondest memories were of spending summers with his uncles on their farms in Georgia. When he was eight years old, he happily moved with his mother to Warner Robins, GA where he relished the more rural lifestyle. Butch met his first wife, Judith Marie Sample while in Warner Robins and married her on July 21, 1967. In August of 1972, the couple joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were sealed as a family with five of their eight children in August of 1976. After Judy’s passing in 2018, he met Regina and they were married later that year.
Butch worked as a lineman for 20 years until an accident ruined his shoulder. He then worked several different jobs until he retired. Butch’s love and admiration for farming followed him from his adolescent years all the way until his last day. He had an assortment of farm animals throughout the course of his life, but his favorites were draft horses, goats and chickens. Butch also collected old farm machinery and tools.
In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith Filetti.
Those left to cherish his memory are his second wife, Regina; his two older sisters, Sandra and Tanya; his eight children and their spouses, John Filetti (Jenny) of AZ, Joseph Filetti (Callie) and Jennifer Carr (Don), both of MO, Mike Filetti (Carrie) of TN, Natalie Clark (Shad) of TX, Nick Filetti of GA, Jared Filetti (Brittany) of FL and Adam Filetti (Olivia) of AL; 45 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation with Butch’s family will take place on Friday, November 4, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Butch will be laid to rest in Centerville Cemetery after the service.
