A decorated Vietnam War veteran, MSgt. John Gordon Menjes, USAF (Ret.), 79, passed away at Piedmont Macon Medical Center on Saturday, December 30, 2023.
John was born on September 8, 1944, in Quantico, Virginia. He was the son of the late John Henry and Marion Elizabeth Hemsink Menjes. Though John was quiet, he dedicated over two decades of his life to serving his country with honor and distinction. Rising through the ranks, he held the position of Information Systems Operations Supervisor. His commitment and valor were recognized with several awards, including the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Two Oak Leaf Clusters and the National Defense Service Medal. John retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his military career, John's commitment to serving his country continued as he seamlessly transitioned into the role of Computer Operator in civil service. His technical expertise and steadfast work ethic were invaluable assets.
John Gordon Menjes is survived by his loving children, Christine, John, Darrell, and Yuri Menjes; five grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and siblings, Sherri Devendorf, Dorothy Menjes, and Deborah Stone.
A visitation with family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service honoring John’s life will immediately follow at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. MSgt. John Gordon Menjes, USAF (Ret.) will be privately laid to rest.
