John C. Mims, 56, entered into rest on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
John was born on November 28, 1968, in Chicopee, Massachusetts, into a proud military family that saw him call diverse places home, including Alaska and England, during his childhood. He graduated from West Anchorage High School in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1987, and soon after enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1989, embarking on a remarkable 22-year journey of distinguished and honorable service.
John’s career in the Air Force was marked by versatility and dedication, with service in various roles and units across the globe. He began in the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), where he served as an Electro Environmental Technician on the HH-60G helicopter. His military path also took him to working on tankers, 1st helicopter squadron in Washington, D.C., F-16s, and eventually to J-Stars, where he concluded his service. Throughout his career, John’s assignments spanned multiple locations, including Warner Robins, Georgia (1994-1997 and 2007-2011), Hurlburt Field, Florida, Washington D.C., Clovis, New Mexico, and Osan, South Korea.
After retiring from the Air Force in 2011, John transitioned to civil service at Robins Air Force Base, where he continued to apply his expertise as an AFETS Equipment Specialist, engineering for J-Stars. He further expanded his career working as an L3 technical writer and in the program office for combat rescue, contributing to critical projects that supported his fellow service members.
Outside of his professional life, John was a passionate collector and tinkerer, with hobbies that included slot machines, gumball machines, computers, patches, and hats. His love for these unique interests reflected his inquisitive nature and attention to detail.
John’s legacy is one of service, dedication, and a love for life’s little curiosities, all of which he shared generously with his family, friends, and colleagues. He will be deeply missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
His mother, Elizabeth Diane Powell Mims, preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 30 years, Angela Threadgill Mims; son, Jonathan Mims and his fiancé, Skyler Wilson; grandchildren, Asher Mims and Thea Ann Delinger; father, John Mims; brother, Josh Mims; and nephew, Theron Mims, along with many other loving family members and friends.
