Johnny Franklin Sykes

On the afternoon of Friday, August 23, 2024, Johnny Franklin Sykes, 83, joined his Lord and Savior in Heaven. 

 Johnny was born on October 11, 1940, in Baltic, North Carolina to the late Henry and Roney Hall Sykes. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Air Force and the United States Navy. To say he loved his country is an understatement. Following his retirement, he dedicated many years working civil service at Robins Air Force Base. A dedicated and hard worker, Johnny was known for being able to fix anything. He loved his family and friends. He enjoyed mechanics and could take the nearest nothing and make it into something useful. Johnny enjoyed the outdoors and the simple pleasures of hunting and fishing. A loyal Christian, he lived with a servant’s heart and enjoyed helping others. Johnny was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack Edward Sykes and Henry James Sykes.

 His memory will forever be treasured by his beloved wife whom he adored, Dora Linda Sykes; son, John Scott Sykes (Roberta) of Shalimar, Florida and daughter, Dora Lisa Lynn of Perry, Georgia; grandchildren, Bradley Scott Lynn, Joshua Nies (Sydney O’Hara Groves), Christian Nies (Madison Hickman) and Andrew Miko Sykes; great granddaughter, Isla Lynn Hickman and son in law, Gary Lee Lynn.

Visitation with Johnny’s family will be Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The graveside service celebrating his life will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 2617 Vinson Highway, Milledgeville, Georgia 31061.
