José Antonio Figueroa, 84, entered into rest on Friday, January 28, 2011.
Mr. Figueroa was born on June 13, 1926 in San German, Puerto Rico and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He lived in Clarksville, Tennessee, before moving to Byron. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Army and participated during the Korean War Theater from 1950 to 1952. He was awarded the Purple Heart while serving with the famous Puerto Rico's 65th Infantry Regiment "Borinqueneers". He was also awarded a Korean Service Medal with Bronze Star and a United Nations Service Medal. Surviving a missile wound, he aided others wounded while not realizing that he himself was seriously wounded. He was always the one to help another and forgetting himself. His memory will forever be treasured by his loving daughters, Sylvia A. Figueroa, Clarksville, Tennessee, María A. Concepción (William V.), Byron, Rosalinda Vazquez (Luis A.), Clarkesville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
