Mr. Joseph E. "J.E." McKenzie, 90, died on Friday, March 2, 2012.
Mr. McKenzie was born on December 19, 1921, in Soperton, Georgia. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Army, and participated in the June 6, 1944, invasion in Normandy, France, and numerous other battle campaigns in France, Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg, and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of Tyrian 111 Masonic Lodge and Al Shiah Shrine Temple. His church home was Green Acres Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years, Erline Canady McKenzie; parents, Vollie Lee McKenzie and Mary A. McKenzie; and brother, Donald McKenzie.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving daughter, Dianne M. Catt (Jim), Madison, Mississippi; brothers, Felton, Gainesville, Georgia, Ray (Melba), Winnsboro, South Carolina, and Condle (Mary), Bowersville, Georgia; sisters, Dean Morris, Oak Park, Georgia, Jewel (Emmett), Glenwood, Georgia; grandchildren, Stephanie Polk (Eddie), Demopolis, Alabama, Tracy Thompson, Madison, Mississippi, and Jason Catt (Anna), New Orleans, Louisiana; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Taylor, Allison and Abbey Polk, Walt and McKenzie Thompson, and Morgan and Andrew Catt; and a numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 4, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, Dr. Johnny Ellison officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Westview Cemetery in Soperton.
