Josephine "Jo" Schell

June 9, 1927 — December 31, 2021

Jo Schell was reunited with her husband of 59 years, Jethro Frederic Schell, on the evening of Friday, December 31, 2021, with 94 years well-lived.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on June 9, 1927, Jo was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margherita DeAcetis. She served her country proudly for eight years in the United States Air Force and went on to dedicate a number of years to Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base before retiring. Jo was well-loved by fellow military and Civil Servant employees, alike.

In June of 1956, Jo was married to the love of her life, Jethro, and happily embraced the role of ‘military spouse.’ She embarked on an exciting journey of moving all over with her husband’s career and traveling any chance she had. Jo always looked forward to their next adventure as a family. Throughout her life, she constantly sought to surround herself and family with happiness and joy.

A longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Jo enjoyed being a member the church’s Golden Hearts and Newcomers. She also belonged to a bowling league for 25 years, loved being a member of the Warner Robins Senior Center, and volunteering for the Senior Olympics for many years. In addition, Jo was a staple volunteer of the soup kitchen of First United Methodist Church in Warner Robins for several years. Her quick-wit and great sense of humor attracted friends like a magnet. Traveling with her circle of friends was one of her favorite pastimes. Her laugh was an infectious one, as she lived by her own motto, it’s “better to laugh than to cry.”

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving sons, Michael Schell (Margaret) of GA and Steven Schell of FL; brother, Thomas DeAcetis of MA; and many adoring nieces and nephews.

Jo’s family will receive friends on Friday, January 7, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. She will be privately laid to rest next to Jethro in Magnolia Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in memory of Jo to the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, Inc., 200 N. Glebe Rd., Suite 400, Arlington, VA 22203.
