Josephine Key Bridges, age 87, passed away August 10, 2005 in Warner Robins, GA. She was the daughter of the late William H. and Telah Hardy Key of Monticello, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, James A. "Jimmy" Bridges, and her sister, Gwendolyn Key Malone of Monticello, GA. -Mrs. Bridges, nee Lorena Josephine Key, was a graduate of Monticello High School where she was a member of the girls' basketball team. She attended GSCW in Milledgeville and then graduated from the University of Georgia with a major in English and a minor in History. It was at the University of Georgia where she also met her future husband and they married in 1939. During World War II, the Bridges were stationed in Texas where she kept house and did volunteer work with other Air Force wives. After the War, she moved with her husband to Atlanta where the couple became a part of the large WSB/Cox Broadcasting family. Mrs. Bridges was a forest landowner and always practiced good stewardship in her timber enterprise, believing that the land and its resources should be preserved for future generations. -Mrs. Bridges was a faithful supporter of the University of Georgia Bulldogs' many sports teams, especially football and basketball. She was also an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves baseball team, and she was a golfing member of Northwood Country Club for many years. -Always thinking of others in need, Mrs. Bridges did volunteer work for the Girl Scouts of America and Meals on Wheels. Her home was always filled with neighborhood children, and she was a trusted babysitter for many friends and family. No one left her house hungry. -Mrs. Bridges was a member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, and she supported projects at Prince Avenue Baptist Church and Bonaire United Methodist Church. She and her husband donated to many national, state and local charities including CURE Childhood Cancer, other children's aid organizations, and animal rescue groups. She made many unsolicited "loans" to people in financial difficulties, never expecting to be repaid. Her grandchildren remember her slipping money to them "just because" she loved them. -Affectionately known as "Jo", she loved her family and friends, and was a good neighbor, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in law, Bob and Joanne Cooper of Bonaire, and Bryan and Jean Hendrix of Bogart.
