Josie Ann Connell, 82, walked into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on the evening of Monday, December 26, 2022.
Josie was born to the late Harry Martin and Annie B. Bishop in Ariton, AL on November 22, 1940. Following graduation from Ariton High School, she moved to Macon, GA to live with her aunt and began working for Prudential. Josie then took on a job at Citizen’s Bank in Fort Valley before settling into a longtime career as office manager at Connell State Farm Agency. After retiring from State Farm, she worked part-time as a receptionist for Summerhill Nursing and Rehab.
A faithful member of Southside Baptist Church, Josie enjoyed worshiping and fellowshipping with fellow members and visitors alike. She volunteered as a greeter and was a much-loved member of Dennis Clark’s small group, as well. Besides worshiping the Lord, Josie loved to be outside. She loved watering her plants, mowing the grass, tending to her flower garden and simply admiring flowers on her daily walks. Josie was also an excellent caretaker of her mother in her final years; she was the picture-perfect daughter as she made phone calls, paid visits, sent money and showered her with gifts regularly. Josie made it a point to spend time with friends and family as much as possible.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Irma Kelly.
Josie is survived by her loving children, Joni Kirby and Julie Shaw (Timothy); grandchildren, Kaitlyn Kirby, Katrina Kirby, Jonathan Hortman, Kendal Shaw and Peyton Shaw; great-grandsons, Liam Kirby-Mcleod and Kaden Hortman; and siblings, Evelyn Jump, Doris Robinson and Deborah Johnson.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, with Reverend Dennis Clark officiating. Josie’s family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Josie to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry St., Ste. A., Macon, GA 31201.
