Joy Chambers Skeen, age 65, of Perry, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 3, 2024. Joy was loved by all who knew her and was treasured by those closest to her. Her absence has left a hole in our hearts, and she will be missed.
After earning her B.S. degree in engineering from the University of Tennessee, Joy began working at Robins Air Force Base. While there, she earned a master’s degree from Mercer University. In the early 2000s, Joy left the base to open her own bed & breakfast business--an antebellum home in Perry, Georgia, known as the Swift Street Inn. She was a wonderful host and enjoyed meeting guests and sharing the history of the inn with them.
Joy was an animal lover and rescued dozens of stray cats from the streets, providing care and working to find them homes. She loved to travel, especially to Europe and the Caribbean. When at home, she enjoyed gardening, crafts, and cheering on her favorite sports teams.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Joyce and Walter Chambers, sister-in-law Susan Chambers, and father-in-law Marvin Skeen. Joy is survived by husband Mike Skeen, sister Charlie Horak, brother David Chambers, niece Kathryn Amrine and husband Brian, niece Melissa Moses and husband Todd, many beloved great nephews and nieces, and special friends Kathy Shank, Tory Grant, and Betty Dagley.
