Juanita (Holt, Upshaw) Vick

Juanita Vick, 90, passed peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2014 from Alzheimer's disease.

Juanita was born on October 3, 1924 in Newport, Tennessee to the late Roy Briscoe Holt and Iva Adella (Crabtree) Holt. Mrs. Vick was a loving mother, devout Jehovah's Witness, master seamstress, a true green-thumb gardener, and an extraordinary culinary talent. She loved to read and was highly self-educated in the fields of nutrition, medicine, and health. In her youth, Juanita was employed at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. Later employment included secretary and receptionist for several logistic and property development firms, nurse scheduler for Piedmont Hospital, and hostess at the then-famous Coach & Six restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia.

She survived her parents; late husbands, Alvin Lafayette Vick of Largo, Florida and Emory Cecile Upshaw of Atlanta, Georgia; and brother, Roy Briscoe Holt, Jr.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her daughter, Janette Cecile Upshaw, retired master baker and pastry chef of Lilburn, Georgia, son, Dana Rory Upshaw (Janice), retired USAF Chief Master Sergeant and business owner of Warner Robins, Georgia, son, Gerry Chris Upshaw, 37-year federal civil servant and Boy Scout leader of Evans, Georgia, and son, Timothy Lucas Upshaw of Perry, Florida; grandchildren, Martin Anthony Upshaw of Columbus, Georgia, Andrew Troy Upshaw (Chavohn) of Killeen, Texas, Joshua Christopher Upshaw of Evans, Georgia, Pamela Johnson (Eddie) of Midway, Georgia, and Robert James Fenton of Kansas.

Family members and friends are eternally grateful for the love and caring attention given by the staffs of Optum Hospice, Warner Robins Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home, Summers Landing Memory Care in Warner Robins, Houston Medical Center, and her physicians in recent years.
