Julia “Judy” Otwell Germani of Warner Robins, Georgia, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2021. She set in motion her “Big Trip,” as she fondly referred to the next step in her journey.
Judy was born in Smyrna, Delaware, to the late Adelaide (Chandler) Otwell and Frank Otwell. She was raised with her younger sibling, Richard Nelson. Judy graduated from Goldy Beacom College. She worked at the Wayside Inn in Smyrna, Delaware, where she met her future husband, Colonel Joseph Germani (retired) while he was in the ROTC and stationed at Dover Air Force Base. After their marriage, they served in Hawaii, California, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Delaware, New Jersey, and finally, in Warner Robins, Georgia. Judy worked at Robins AFB for five years before retiring in order to spend more time with her family and many friends.
She could often be found watching her sons and grandsons many sporting events. Judy also loved to volunteer and donate her time to organizations such as the Relay for Life, the Maryknoll Foundation, Catholic Women of the Chapel, Warner Robins Newcomers Club, Heifer International and was a Member of the RAFB Officer's Wives Club. She sent hundreds of care packages to the US Marine Corp soldiers in Afghanistan, as well as many other charitable organizations. Her generosity touched many lives across the world. Judy also enjoyed visiting Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, whenever she could. While there, she would be sure to stop for her favorite Dolly’s caramel popcorn. Judy was a guiding force arranging decades of family vacations at the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Estes Park, Colorado, in the Rocky Mountain National Park. She was a fantastic cook and loved preparing meals for family and friends. She enjoyed shopping, going to yard sales, gardening, traveling the country, and keeping in touch with her Air Force friends across the country.
Judy is preceded in death by her husband, Colonel Joseph Germani (retired); her father, Frank Otwell; and her mother, Adelaide (Chandler) Otwell.
She is survived by her brother, Richard Nelson (Joyce); sons, Mike, Steve (Cathy); Greg (Beth Anne) and his former spouse, Suellen; and John; grandsons, Joseph and Will Germani; as well as a sister-in-law, Patricia Germani.
