Kathryn Hamilton Carcopa, a devoted wife, mother, and friend, entered into rest on January 22, 2025, at the age of 64. She was born on December 26, 1960, in Charleston, South Carolina, to the late William "Ham Bone" Hamilton and Kathryn "Kitty" Garner Hamilton.
Growing up in a military family, Kathryn’s childhood was marked by adventure, as her father’s service in the Air Force took their family to numerous locations across the country and abroad. She attended school in Alamogordo, New Mexico, and it was there that she met the love of her life, her husband, Barney. They were married on June 16, 1978, in Monks Corner, South Carolina. Their life together was a journey of service and love, with time spent in New Jersey, New Mexico, Germany, and Maine as her husband served in the Air Force. Upon his retirement, the couple made their home in Charleston, South Carolina, where they lived for 10 years before moving to Warner Robins, Georgia, in 2013.
Kathryn dedicated much of her life to being a loving homemaker, caring for her family, and making sure everyone around her felt valued. Her warmth extended to her career as well, where she worked as a Customer Service Representative for General Aviation Airport in Charleston and a hotel clerk in Maine, but it was her role as a mother and wife that she treasured most.
Kathryn had a passion for life’s simple pleasures. She took great pride in her custom PT Cruiser, which she loved showing off at car shows. A proud member of the Carolinas PT Cruisers, Kathryn enjoyed the community and camaraderie of car enthusiasts. A talented artist, she shared her creativity through her paintings, which were displayed at local shops. Her hobbies included crafting, knitting, crocheting, and creating beautiful wind chimes from wine bottles. A true artist at heart, she had a keen eye for beauty in all things.
Her love and care for her family were immeasurable. She was incredibly active in her children’s lives, attending countless cheerleading practices, softball games, and band concerts. Kathryn also enjoyed teaching her daughters the joy of cooking, passing down her skills and love for great food. Whether it was a delicious meal or simply a word of encouragement, Kathryn always made sure her loved ones felt cared for.
Kathryn’s compassion extended to animals as well. She took great pride in raising chickens, ducks, goats, and horses, always ensuring they were well taken care of. Her love for animals was a reflection of her nurturing nature.
Kathryn was known for her generosity, thoughtfulness, and ability to make anyone feel special. Her husband, who considered himself lucky to have her by his side, remembers her as the beautiful, loving, and strong woman who was always ready to help others. She had a special ability to make anything out of almost nothing, often using her resourcefulness to create something wonderful, whether it was through crafting or simply making do with what she had.
Kathryn was a rare soul who loved deeply, cared selflessly, and was always thinking of others. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and creativity that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by her siblings, Larry Hamilton and Patricia Lynn Ellenburg.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her loving husband, Barney; daughters, Kathryn Jenifier Carcopa of Fort Valley and Andrea Lynn Carcopa-Price (Josh) of Bonaire; grandson, Grason Eugene Carcopa; and brother, Jerry Hamilton (Elaine).
