Kay E. Nelson, caring and devoted mother, grandmother and sister, returned home to her Heavenly Father on Friday, October 21, 2022, at the age of 78.
Born in Thomaston, GA on August 10, 1944, Kay was the daughter of the late James Frank and Annie Bess Nelson. She dedicated a number of years to Volunteer Macon where she served as office manager and very much enjoyed the opportunity to help those in need. Kay was a nature lover who loved to travel; going to the beach and hiking in Arizona were among her favorite activities and places to visit. She also had a sweet spot for all animals! Though Kay enjoyed being active, she was a lady and always looked her best. When she wasn’t enjoying the outdoors, you could find her doting and loving on her grandchildren or having a Bible study. Kay’s wonderful enthusiasm for life, and her love for family and the Lord will be forever remembered by everyone who knew her.
Kay is survived by her loving sons, Douglas Childress, Jr. (Tone Franklin) and Brian Todd Childress (Taylor); her grandchildren; and her siblings, Phoebe Crabb and Jimmy Nelson (Joanne).
