Kenneth Phillip Harris

Kenneth Phillip Harris, 63, died Monday, June 1, 2009, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia after an extended illness.

Ken was born on June 14, 1945, in Thomaston. After graduation from R.E. Lee High School in Thomaston, he attended Gordon Military College in Barnesville and Georgia Southwestern College in Americus. With pride and honor, he was an eight year veteran of the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and served one tour of duty in Vietnam. He was employed by Anchor Glass for seven years, after which he was employed by the United States Postal Service for fifteen years, working in the main post office in Macon. Ken was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Macon for over twenty-seven years. He was an Usher and served on the Softball Committee, and enjoyed being a score keeper for the church's Spring Coed Softball League. His parents, Edwin Harris and Aileen Harris, and sisters, Edwina Whitler and Pat Hatchett, preceded him in death.

A loving and faithful husband and father, he is survived by his wife of nearly thirty-five years, Bonnie Becham Harris; daughter, Jennifer Aileen Harris, Macon; son, Joel Trevor Harris, Warner Robins; father-in-law, James Allen Becham; "daughter", Charla Barnes, Macon; nephews, Robert Lowenthal, Duluth, and Jimmy Lowenthal, McDonough; niece, Ann Hoard, Thomaston; and several great nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2009, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, Dr. Charles Michael Blizzard officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, North Gate (new section), in Macon. Ken loved flowers and the family will accept floral tributes.
