Laura Jane Bland

Jane Bland, 77, died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at the Heart of Georgia inpatient unit in Perry.

Mrs. Bland was born on May 13, 1931, in Ocilla, Georgia. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Elton Bland; son, Richard Stanley Bland, and parents, Colbert Ashurst and Nellie Bryson Ashurst.

Mrs. Bland was a teacher for the Muscogee County School District in Columbus, Georgia for forty-one years. From 1963 until 1992 she taught senior English and honors classes at Jordan High School. She received several awards, including the Sara Spano Page One Award as Top Teacher, Star Teacher and Teacher of the Year. The Jane Bland Annual Award for Outstanding Senior English Student was established in her name at her retirement.

Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Ann Eubanks (James), Warner Robins; sons, Jon Bland (Margaret), Waynesville, North Carolina, David Bland, Atlanta and Guy Bland (Emily), Acworth; grandchildren, Sarah Kill (Shawn), Layton, Utah; Jason Eubanks (Roseann), Little Rock, Arkansas; Amber, Richard and Samantha Bland, Atlanta; Charles Richardson, Tampa, Florida; Tina Hernandez, Waynesville, North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Christian and Anastasia Kill, Aiden Eubanks, Joseph Hernandez, Ashley Bland and Ashton Richardson; and sisters, Patricia Bagley and Faye Faulk both of Enterprise, Alabama.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2008, in Warner Robins, at the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, Reverend Kathy Israel-McLeod officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Heart of Georgia In-Patient Hospice, 1120 Morningside Drive, Perry GA 31069.
